Mecca California Deluge 9/11/12

Yuma base reflectivity radar loop from 12:15am to 11:45am

Below is the radar loop focused on Mecca Californa for September 11th, 2012 for the times between 12:15am and 11:45am. Notice how the movement of the storm cells, at the start of the loop, are from the south. Then a shift in the mid level winds that reversed the movement of the cells from southerly to northerly. It was this change in the winds that allowed this storm cell to stop its movement, drop huge amounts of rain, and begin to move back south. Causing 5.51 inches of rain to be recorded at one rain guage in Mecca in less than 5 hours!

Keep in mind that this 18 second loop is over 11 hours in real time!
